On September 6th Peter went to Namibia to visit Cheetah Conservation Fund UK (CCF UK) and help raise the profile and funds for this charity. What an incredible place this is. Founded in Namibia in 1990, Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) has been dedicated to saving the cheetah in the wild. Their vision is to see a world in which cheetahs live and flourish in coexistence with people within a sustainable system that is protective of the environment, socially responsible, and economically viable.
CCF UK is an affiliate of CCF global, raising funds and awareness to support the work of CCF in Africa and beyond to save the cheetah from extinction.
We met and had chance to discuss with the founder, Dr Laurie Marker, why she has dedicated her life to the conservation of cheetahs in the wild.
This charity is so much more than just cheetahs and includes conservation, a dog programme which works along side the farmers to help protect their livestock. It trains to dogs protect the goats and sheep which in turn helps stop the farmers killing these most vulnerable of cats. The dogs are trained with the onsite goats which also produce cheese, ice cream and soap. There is also the bio lab and veterinary centre for not only all animals at CCF from Cheetahs, dogs, goats, and sheep but it is also there to help assist any local farmers who may need assistance. Lastly there is an eco-friendly fuel, bush block production which is the brainchild of Laurie’s husband, Bruce.
This place is its own eco system and is helping so many people and animals alike.
All the staff and volunteers are dedicated to the cause, and you can see and feel their passion.
I am very proud to be working with this charity. Please log onto www.cheetah.org or www.cheetah.org/uk and see for yourself how YOU could help.
